With a huge landmass, lengthy coastlines, and quality wind resources, Canada has enormous potential to generate electricity from wind. In 2009, Canada installed more than 900 MW of new wind energy capacity, placing Canada in the top 10 worldwide for new installed capacity. It is estimated that new wind farm developments represented more than $2.2 billion in investment last year. Canada also achieved a new milestone in 2009 – wind power generated electricity is now produced in every province with the recent commissioning of Bear Mountain Wind Farm in British Columbia.
